The vessel calls CMIT for handling nearly 6,000 container boxes equivalent to 10,000 TEUs of import, export and transshipment through Vietnam.

Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) is a joint venture between Vietnam Maritime Corporation, Sai Gon port and APM Terminals. Experiencing nearly 10 years in operation, CMIT is the leader in whole Vietnam’s terminal and port system in accommodating mega container ship up to 214,121DWT. This accomplishment is acquired not only thanks for CMIT’s effort but also a relentless determination of the whole Vietnam’s marine industry, to be named Ministry of Transport, Vinamarine and relevant stakeholders.

“The deployment of ultra large container vessel (ULCV) is an emerging trend in all major shipping lines all over the world which requires terminals advanced handling capacity and the world’s class productivity to maintain vessel sailing schedule. CMIT in particular and Cai Mep port in general becoming one of the main ports in the service schedule has proved Vietnam port system’s competitiveness and the increase of Vietnam brand name in the world’s supply chain. CMIT looks forward to further development opportunities with 2M Alliance and MSC in the coming time” said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky – CMIT Deputy General Director.

MSC - a Geneva, Switzerland based company – is the 2nd biggest shipping line globally with the service network connecting 500 ports on 200 service routes to 155 countries all around the world. Witnessing the blooming in marine transport demand, MSC recently has ordered a new fleet of ULCV with capacity up to 23,000 TEUs, which remarkable increase its total vessel fleet capacity to serve market demand.

MSC Oliver calling CMIT in the very last days of 2020 ends a CMIT tremendous year when we both successfully accommodate the biggest vessels to ever call in Vietnam and continuously break the record of container handling volume thanks to the dramatic growth in export demand to the US market in the second half of 2020. This absolutely is an advantaged footprint for CMIT further development in 2021.
