Ba Ria-Vung Tau, August 20, 2024 – Today, at Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT), the workshop on "Green Transformation in the Maritime Industry," organized by the Vietnam Ports Association (VPA), was successfully held with the participation of nearly 70 delegates. The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format, both in-person at CMIT and online via the MS Teams platform, with the attendance of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vung Tau Port Authority and representatives of the leadership from member ports of the VPA in the Southeast region, as well as guest speakers who are experts on green transformation.
The workshop aimed to create a forum for exchanging information, sharing experiences, raising awareness among the port sector, and discussing solutions toward achieving the goal of green transformation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector – an urgent and essential trend in the current global context. Speakers shared experiences and strategies to fulfill Vietnam's commitments at COP26, aiming to achieve Net Zero by 2050, as well as the roadmaps, plans, and actions of relevant stakeholders in the maritime industry and their impacts on Vietnam's port sector.
During the workshop, delegates discussed and shared insights on various topics:
- Green Transformation and Carbon Neutrality: Mr. Pham Hoai Trung, Head of the Net to Zero Campaign, Chairman of the Board of Members of Azitech Company, presented on modern technologies and solutions to help the maritime industry reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. These initiatives play a crucial role in environmental protection and building a sustainable maritime industry.
- Impact of CO2 Reduction Commitments on Vietnam's Port Sector: Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, General Director of Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT), shared the commitments of shipping lines in achieving Net Zero and the impact of these commitments on Vietnam's port sector. Additionally, the development of green transport corridors was emphasized as a critical part of this strategy.
- Green Growth, Sustainable Development – An Essential Requirement: Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thao, Head of Public Relations and Investor Relations at Gemadept Corporation, and Lieutenant Colonel Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Technical Department at Saigon Newport Corporation, shared their roadmaps and practical experiences in implementing green transformation plans. They highlighted the importance of combining economic growth with environmental protection and recommended practical solutions to achieve this goal.
The workshop received significant interest from the attending delegates. The challenges and opportunities in implementing the green transformation were discussed enthusiastically. The delegates also agreed that strengthening cooperation among stakeholders is a key factor in accelerating the green transformation process, helping Vietnam's port sector advance further on the path to sustainable development.
